How to Learn Internet Business Processes

As people by the thousands have been laid off due to the current economic climate, there has been an increased interest in home-based businesses. While this includes selling door-to-door, selling through home parties, and sending out mail order ads, the most flexible home business is to sell through the internet. The internet allows you to reach far more potential clients than travelling door-to-door. It offers a more comfortable business process than any face-to-face selling ever could. And you don't have to be a high-pressure, "rah-rah" kind of person to succeed. If you have a systematic way of approaching your tasks, and if you are diligent, then with some practice, you can learn to succeed on the internet. You can learn all you need to know through books, recordings, reading websites, and just trying enough things and seeing what works. The best way to learn, though, is through a personal relationship with someone who has already done what you want to do. The internet has been a major commerce platform for over 10 years now, and in that time many people have struggled through the same learning curve you will need to go through. You don't have to repeat their mistakes. Some of them are willing to mentor newcomers to the business. Some use group mentoring session; some even do one-on-one coaching. Usually, they mentor for a fee. Of course, one issue is finding a mentor that is trustworthy and that specializes in the kind of business you want to learn. The mentor need not know your specialty (gardening, tennis, etc) because the principles of marketing are the same regardless of the subject matter. The mentor, though, should have experience in what you want to accomplish. Do you want to build a website? Sell through e-mail? Use Google Adwords? The mentor should already have succeeded in this area. Meeting potential mentors and verifying their expertise is best done in person. That's often not easy. They are usually busy people. However, one process is often successful in finding a good mentor--attending a conference on internet marketing. The speakers at these conferences are the leading individuals in their field. People like Matt Bacak, Willie Crawford, Simon Leung, and Ross Goldberg (who have major success in internet marketing--try googling them to see) often teach at these conferences. You can hear a selection of speakers who have already learned particular specialties. Based on their group presentation, you can select a few good candidates to talk with before you make your selection. They will be glad to talk with you. They attend these conferences for the purpose of "networking" and that includes finding new clients for their coaching programs. So attend an upcoming conference on internet marketing. You will be pleased with how much you learn at the conference, you will meet dozens of other new marketers like you, and you will probably find the mentor who can place you on the road to success.
